The Journey Began in the Classroom

The vision for the Be Exceptional Consortium was born from direct experience as a teacher of Exceptional Children. In those formative years, we witnessed first-hand the systemic inequities that students with special needs and their families often faced — gaps in services, a lack of clarity in documentation, and a need for greater parent empowerment.

Exceptional Education Solutions was founded to address these gaps head-on — beginning with training for parents, equipping them with the knowledge and confidence to navigate the complexities of special education systems, and providing direct advocacy at IEP meetings.

This work quickly revealed that the problem was bigger than a single classroom or school. The issues were structural. And the need was urgent — not just for better individual advocacy, but for bold, courageous system-level planning and execution that could close persistent opportunity gaps.

That realization gave birth to Exceptional Leadership Solutions — drawing on leadership tenure at the Delaware Department of Education and partnerships with national school improvement networks to support schools and districts across the country.

Alongside leadership development came the recognition that effective systems are only as strong as the people who execute them. Exceptional People Solutions was built to provide strategic HR consulting that attracts, grows, and retains top-tier, equity-minded talent.

Curtis brings decades of experience as a teacher of Exceptional Children, a leader at the Delaware Department of Education, a national school improvement specialist, and a strategic HR consultant. His work spans parent advocacy, principal coaching, leadership recruitment, student engagement systems, and school turnaround — all unified by a single conviction: every learner deserves adults and systems equipped to deliver on their promise. The Be Exceptional Consortium is the culmination of that life’s work.
